Our Waters

Ogwen Valley Angling Association offers access to two principal river beats, each extending to approximately two miles of double-bank fishing.

Although relatively short at around seven miles in total length, the river provides excellent sea trout fishing throughout the season, along with strong runs of salmon and grilse.

In addition to the river, the Association manages four upland lakes offering fishing for wild trout. The largest and most accessible, Llyn Ogwen, is regularly stocked with rainbow trout during the season. Wild brown trout are also found in good numbers within the main river and its upland tributaries, which provide adventurous anglers with a variety of rewarding and often challenging small-stream environments.

Set within the dramatic landscape of Eryri, the catchment boasts some of the region’s most celebrated scenery, alongside a wide range of river conditions to suit anglers of all abilities—from beginners to experienced rods.

As a classic spate river, rising water following rainfall is often welcomed, bringing ideal conditions for salmon and sea trout fishing. In contrast, brighter days with a steady breeze tend to favour fishing on the lakes.

While certain restrictions apply, a variety of angling methods can be effective across these waters. However, as local anglers know well, those who are willing to adapt their approach and employ a range of techniques are often rewarded with the greatest success.
